A Camden Town Hall wedding

I do love a micro-wedding. It is a wonderfully intensive, concentrated celebration – an ‘espresso shot’ of a couple’s love, if you will – and Aldana and Alvaro’s beautiful Camden Town Hall wedding was no exception!

Their perfectly timed arrival came just after the morning’s downpour had ceased and they greeted guests in the foyer and the grand, long corridor which leads to the Regent’s Room where the ceremony was to take place.

One of the things that sets apart a Registry Office wedding from any other is that often the betrothed couple arrive and enter together. It makes for a much more relaxed and informal affair and those pre-wedding butterflies can be shared with each other in precious, intimate moments before the ceremony begins.

Luckily, the Regent’s Room has a soothing, fresh botanical theme linking it to the lush, landscaped Regent’s Park just down the road with which it shares its name – good for calming the storm of nerves a wedding can sometimes elicit! You enter the room flanked by potted bay, olive and money trees (the latter perhaps a portent of the rich years to follow – I’m an old romantic, what can I say?)

You are also flanked by your excited guests, of course, all eager to see you tie the knot. A few members of Aldana and Alvaro’s congregation had been tasked with live-streaming the ceremony, broadcasting the joyous nuptials all the way over to their family home in Argentina!

The ceremony itself was a joyous affair with many laughs and happy faces, even when Aldana’s bouquet was delivered a few minutes in! Everyone in the room had a huge smile on their face from the Celebrant all the way to the South American contingent watching online.

A personal highlight of the day for me came just after the confetti line which took place on the main Town Hall steps on Judd Street. A reveller from the pub across the road replete in Pope fancy dress (and perhaps a couple of pints in), called across to the wedding party – oversized cross in hand – demanding to know why this wedding wasn’t taking place in a church! It was all in good jest and everyone had a good laugh about it.

As a Camden Town Hall wedding photographer, you are spoilt when it comes to couple portraits without even leaving the building (which is particularly handy when it has been raining outside)! The white marble staircase – the must-have shot for any Camden Town Hall wedding – is a wonderfully grand backdrop for group and couple portraits, and we made full use of it.

The morning’s rain had put paid to our plans for visiting Brunswick Square for some ‘greener’ photos, but we did make time to capture my favourite shot of the day outside opposite St. Pancras Hotel. I love utilising a longer exposure time to blur the movement around a couple. Getting them to stand as still as possible while the picture is taken, the effect is one which highlights the blissful, oblivious nature of love – motionless, the couple bask in each other’s company while the frenetic chaos of the world around them zooms by, streaking across the frame.

Like I said, I’m an old romantic!

All the very best for the future, Aldana and Alvaro!

I would rather face one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.
